Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ Hanseatic Nature, a luxury expedition cruise ship, visited four different ports in autumnal Finland – Kemi, Oulu, Vaasa, and Mariehamn. With 214 passengers on board, the ship started its 15-day cruise from Hamburg. The ship will return to Germany, arriving in Kiel on October 2. Besides the Finnish ports, the ship also visited two ports in Sweden.
Extending the season in the north and west
Sunny weather and colorful autumn days were complemented by unforgettable experiences arranged by Next Travel Nordic. Cruise guests explored local culture, tried different activities, and enjoyed Finnish nature. On more than 20 different tours in the four ports.
From Kemi, the northernmost port of Finland, some guests visited Rovaniemi by the Arctic Circle and explored the history and culture of Tornio and Haparanda, the twin cities on either side of the Finnish-Swedish border. In Oulu, highlights included meeting reindeer at a local farm, kayaking in the Oulu archipelago, and taking a ferry to nearby Hailuoto Island for a brewery visit. Vaasa offered a sunny Sunday for a walking city tour and a visit to a unique landscape formed in the middle of a 520-million-year-old meteorite crater. In the last of the Finnish ports, Mariehamn, some guests explored the city by bike, while others learned about the maritime history of the Åland Islands – and a few ventured into the archipelago in the company of a local boat captain.

From Mariehamn, the guests will enjoy a few sea days before arriving back in Germany. During the winter of 2025–2026, Hanseatic Nature will return to the north with winter calls along Finland’s west coast. Then it will be all about the winter wonderland, Arctic experiences, and – hopefully – the Northern Lights!
