A Tailored Route through the Archipelago
Last week, the boutique cruise ship Azamara Journey brought international cruise guests to three unique Baltic destinations calling at Helsinki, Turku, and Mariehamn.
This tailor-made itinerary into the authentic Finnish culture, was a result of several visits of Azamara´s representative to the above-mentioned destinations. In addition to offering unique destination experiences in each city, the itinerary included a route navigating from Turku to Mariehamn. This experience gave the guests a possibility to enjoy the unique archipelago between Turku and the Åland islands. The route was planned in collaboration with the local pilots from Finnpilot Pilotage Ltd.
The journey took place in beautiful golden sunshine, when the excited guests took part of the absolute best experience that summery Finland has to offer. Azamara Journey was on a maiden call to both Turku and Mariehamn.
Three Unique Destinations: from Capital to Island Charm
During the eleven-day Baltic Sea cruise, the vessel first visited Helsinki, where guests had the opportunity to experience Finland’s vibrant capital. Helsinki is renowned for its blend of Nordic design, maritime heritage, and modern urban culture. The journey continued to Turku which is the oldest city in Finland. The cruise guests enjoyed the historical sites and the charming atmosphere along the river. Turku is an important maritime hub and the gateway to the spectacular Archipelago Sea.
The final Finnish call was made to the port of Mariehamn in the Åland Islands. The destination offers visitors a unique combination of island charm and rich seafaring traditions. The cruise guests took part in several nature-related activities such as cycling, hiking and small boat tours in the archipelago. Åland is famous for its apple cultivation and tasting the local apple juices was also an experience offered to the guests.
Local Collaboration and Diverse Network
Azamara Journey’s calls to Helsinki, Turku, and Mariehamn provided passengers with an authentic glimpse into the diversity of Finland and Åland. The ports offer dynamic city life, historic maritime destinations and picturesque island communities. The cooperation between the local communities, port operators and tourism partners is vital for showing the versatile ports included in the Cruise Finland network.
