Turku is leading the way in sustainable cruising, combining its rich maritime heritage with innovative climate action. The city and Port of Turku work together to minimize emissions, promote fossil‑free transport, and support responsible tourism. Visitors can enjoy eco‑friendly experiences while exploring the city’s culture, history, and vibrant waterfront – all while contributing to a greener future.
Port of Turku is a member of Turku’s city climate team, which has set the goal of being carbon neutral in 2029.
Port of Turku is also part of the Green Corridor project in developing a fossil-free transport corridor between the ports of Stockholm and Turku, operated by Viking Line. This reflects on all port operations and for example all work vehicles in the port are electrified and the port offers LNG bunkering.
The port offers a possibility for cruise vessels to leave old bed linen and towels at the port for recycling. The textiles will be donated to the local animal shelter and used by the homeless animals at the shelter.
Finland, the happiest country in the world, the home of Santa Claus, with its clean, safe and accessible cities and captivating archipelago landscapes, offers an enriching experience for cruise travelers.
